More finalists of the Hong Kong LEGO Building competition

As an asian AFOL, I like to see asian inspired Lego creations and the Hong Kong LEGO Building competition has a couple of nice ones I’ve been meaning to feature for a while.

Apart from Apliu Street I blogged a few days earlier, the entries for all 12 finalists  can be viewed in the official competition site and are also compiled here in the HK forum.

Enjoy! 🙂

I really like Ancient Lady’s Museum by marcosbessa.  No point describing further, just enjoy the pics!

MOC: Apliu Street in Hong Kong

There have been a coupls of great MOCs recently. Been too busy to share them here but think I should get started… 1st off, Alexhui on Eurobricks just shared his MOC which is an entry in the Hong Kong LEGO Building competition that will be held 7/30/2010 – 3/8/2010 in Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Center (wish I had a business trip to HK…). His model is one of the 12 finalists: Link

I think it excellently captures the bustle and ‘noise’ of HK… and I love how he did the neon looking lights. He even included Mahjong players on the rooftop! 🙂  The minifigs don’t look like Hong Kong-ers tho… Visit Eurobricks for more pics!

“Apliu Street (simplified Chinese: 鸭寮街; traditional Chinese: 鴨寮街) is a street in the Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It runs parallel to Cheung Sha Wan Road between Yen Chow Street and Nam Cheong Street. An easy way to reach it is to get off at the MTR Sham Shui Po Station. Use the A2 or C2 exit and you will be ascending directly into Apliu Street.

The Cantonese name “apliu” (鴨寮) comes from a village which was formerly located nearby but has long since been buried underneath the urbanization of Sham Shui Po.

Apliu Street has a huge flea market containing electronics, electrical components, and related items. A shopper can find both new and used merchandise in the area. Apliu Street is well known for geek shopping.

While Apliu Street is famous for electronic parts, the Golden Shopping Arcade found on the other side of Cheung Sha Wan Road is famous for computer hardware and related items.”

Interiors: bedrooms and toilets

I’ve a weakness for nice looking interiors.  Not sure if it’s cos official sets are so sparsely furnished.  Littlehaulic has some interesting touches like the shag carpet in the toilet.  Enjoy!

My modular street – new cinema

Update on 9 Aug’10: Close-ups of my cinema here
*************************************
I’ve got a new cinema in my modular street… you may recall me posting about cinemas a while back.

Well, it’s not quite there yet, still needs some tweaking but finally feel more comfortable to share a sneak peek.

And you can also see my taller Cafe Corner by the side.  I added 2 rows of browns – one on roof and one at level 2, and 1 row of tan on level 2.  Not the most creative MOD, but at least I feel better when I see it next to the Green Grocer.

Land of Eternal Bad Luck

It is bad luck, in a way, that I saw Lolasso‘s ‘Land of Eternal Bad Luck’ after I saw the Japanese castle diorama, but I still think it’s a pretty great MOC.

I can’t help gushing…

… gushing about how brilliant the Japanese AFOLs are of course… a few more links to the Japanese builders and their wonderful creations…

Nasu Highland Park Lego event

Brick Fan Town <– really good modular houses as you can see from the pic below (worth taking a look even if you don’t understand jap like me)!
