More finalists of the Hong Kong LEGO Building competition

As an asian AFOL, I like to see asian inspired Lego creations and the Hong Kong LEGO Building competition has a couple of nice ones I’ve been meaning to feature for a while.

Apart from Apliu Street I blogged a few days earlier, the entries for all 12 finalists  can be viewed in the official competition site and are also compiled here in the HK forum.

Enjoy! 🙂

MOC: Apliu Street in Hong Kong

There have been a coupls of great MOCs recently. Been too busy to share them here but think I should get started… 1st off, Alexhui on Eurobricks just shared his MOC which is an entry in the Hong Kong LEGO Building competition that will be held 7/30/2010 – 3/8/2010 in Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Center (wish I had a business trip to HK…). His model is one of the 12 finalists: Link

I think it excellently captures the bustle and ‘noise’ of HK… and I love how he did the neon looking lights. He even included Mahjong players on the rooftop! 🙂  The minifigs don’t look like Hong Kong-ers tho… Visit Eurobricks for more pics!

“Apliu Street (simplified Chinese: 鸭寮街; traditional Chinese: 鴨寮街) is a street in the Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It runs parallel to Cheung Sha Wan Road between Yen Chow Street and Nam Cheong Street. An easy way to reach it is to get off at the MTR Sham Shui Po Station. Use the A2 or C2 exit and you will be ascending directly into Apliu Street.

The Cantonese name “apliu” (鴨寮) comes from a village which was formerly located nearby but has long since been buried underneath the urbanization of Sham Shui Po.

Apliu Street has a huge flea market containing electronics, electrical components, and related items. A shopper can find both new and used merchandise in the area. Apliu Street is well known for geek shopping.

While Apliu Street is famous for electronic parts, the Golden Shopping Arcade found on the other side of Cheung Sha Wan Road is famous for computer hardware and related items.”

Lego books at Kinokuniya

I got the book “James May’s Lego House” from Kinokuniya… I just had to see how the house was built.

Tbh, after reading I thought the design wasn’t that great… I really don’t like the stripes of colour running all outside the house.  As for the interiors, some were good (a real flushable toilet made of Lego!) while others were fairly disappointing… (chairs with studs on the seat? Even if they can’t use SNOT, I’m sure they could get some flat tiles… imagine the pain of sitting on a studded chair! )

Also spotted, one (1) last book of the Lego Collector.  I might have swiped it if not for the fact that I already have two. 😀

Collectible minifigs & X-wing Fighter at Toysrus SG

While looking for the Toyrus truck (nope, not in SG yet!), I spotted collectible minifigs (8683) & the 6212 X-Wing Fighter at Toysrus.  The minifigs are sold loose (don’t forget to bring your barcodes or download the scanning program!) at S$3.90 each and the X-Wing Fighter is at S$89.90.  They should be going fast, so hurry if you want any.

No more 6212 at United Square…  (-_-“)

No, I don’t collect Star Wars, but my bf does… yes, we have a small squadron of them to attack the Death Star… 😛

LEGO LEGO X-wing Fighter

I can’t help gushing…

… gushing about how brilliant the Japanese AFOLs are of course… a few more links to the Japanese builders and their wonderful creations…

Nasu Highland Park Lego event

Brick Fan Town <– really good modular houses as you can see from the pic below (worth taking a look even if you don’t understand jap like me)!

Brick Fan Castle 2010

We know that the Japanese AFOLs are brilliant… now we know that they are humble too:

July 2010, we Japanese amateur builders made a original fantasy world at LEGO STUDIUM, Nasu Japan.”

Good morning in Paris

The subway sign really reminds me of Paris… wish I am there!  The “metropolitan” sign is really what some of the Paris subway entrances have (the ones near Montmarte?).  I thought the tree was great too.

Thanks to 74louloute from Eurobricks who shared his MOC on the forum. More pics and discussions on Eurobricks .  🙂
