Do You Have a Nice Business Card?

How would you like to have a business card that is a 1.5 inch minifig that resembles you, has your name printed in front and contact details behind?  Like this:

Yeah, me too. Talk about having a memorable intro… imagine carrying a container of minifigs instead of boring namecards when you go for meetings. LOL.

More in this funny article from WSJ – the ‘namecard’ belongs to the CEO of TLG btw -:  http://blogs.wsj.com/source/2010/11/15/a-lego-business-card/

Some MOCs I Like

What a crummy Monday… and thank goodness for a short week ahead (Wednesday is a public holiday in Singapore for Hari Raya Haji).

Quite a bonaza of MOCs that caught my eye.  Enjoy…

This Halo Master Chief Helmet looks very much like what I see from the game.  In Benny Brickster‘s description “it is made completely out of Lego except for the visor, which is a modified motorcycle helmet visor”.  He seems to be keen on making an entire costume out of LEGO which makes me wonder how he’ll move in the costume without it breaking into pieces… or for the matter move around surrounded by a few kg of LEGO bricks…

One look at the thumbnail and I guessed this must be another entry in Castle Castle’s competition.  Castle Hadrian is  busboy489‘s entry in the  “Realistic Castle” Category of CCCVIII.

Does Kosaka-10 mean anything to you? It doesn’t, but this creation by tkh reminds me of those ‘strange’ anime displays I see in some toy stores.  By ‘strange’, I mean… erm… y’know, let’s move on…

You like flying blimps?  I think I’ve a soft spot for them…  Shamisenfred‘s “CONDOR” ostrichean smuggler is an example.

This Huge Persian Market by Brian Lyles looks fantastic. I know I don’t visit MOCpages enough and I certainly should more often with creations like this… do visit the page for more pics of the marketplace: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/235718.  So… more POP sets anyone? 😛

Continuing the somewhat Asian theme, this gorgeous Kasbah at Deir-az-Zur by davekaleta is built for the “Swords and Sorcery” final round of the MOC Olympics at www.mocpages.com/group.php/12864.

This Homage to H.P.Lovecraft by Mr. Xenomurphy looks deliciously spooky… and twisted. I’m sure it’s intentional cos it’s in the 3rd round of the Dem Bones Haunted Halloween Contest for Haunted House. Again… great presentation here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/236388.

Haven’t had a nice piratey MOC for a while. Luke WatkinsRocky Reef Hideout looks great. I really like the rickety bridges.

GYUTA continues  his streak of transformable MOCs with this Transformer: Barricade. And another video below.

2011 Set Pics & Minifig Series 4 News

I know the 2011 set pics (Star Wars, Ninjago, Pharoah’s Quest, Atlantis, City, Technic, Creator, etc) are out on EB & ToysnBrick, mainly from this Dutch site: http://www.superspeelgoed.nl/preview.php and this German site: http://www.superspielwaren.de/

So rather than spending time re-posting, pls do go to the various sites that have already posted/re-posted the pics to get your fill of the 2011 sets k?  Anyway you would already have seen the sets if you saw the leaked catalogues posted a while back.

I’m more interested in the news of Minifig Series 4 shared by legokuate from EB who translated them from Dutch to English.  (EB Link)

  • Monster
  • Surfer Girl
  • Sailor
  • Kimono Girl
  • Punk
  • Viking
  • Speed Skater
  • Hockey Player
  • Skateboarder
  • Man with Safety Suit
  • Musketeer
  • Werewolf
  • Artist
  • Mad Professor
  • Soccer Player
  • Garden Gnome

Hard to assess without pics but based on description I would say Kimono Girl, Punk, Musketeer, Artist, Werewolf & Garden Gnome sounds good to me – either from the minifigs or the anticipated accessories.

So what do you think will be the ‘Spartan’ of this series?

Some MOCs I Like

Here are some nice creations for your inspiration.

King of Diamonds by Marin Stipkovic looks amazing.  Really impressive piece of work.

All The Kings Horses by Shmails is an entry over at Classic Castle’s CCCVIII Pastoral Life Category – I like how the action is represented by splashings in the water.  Personally, I love building competitions… there’s always an outpouring of creative MOCs when there are competitions.

Wallace & Gromit by  MisaQa is spot on

I like how the LED lighting is used to give a fiery effect… Station on Fire by rack911

For Star Wars fan, here is the Cantina by  Roland :: Nienke

Remember the wall-E I featured the other day? GYUTA wows us next with this One Touch Transformable RC Tank.  According to him “It tranforms with just one touch from a tank to a robot, and vice versa. Also, this vehicle can be driven by LEGO RC controller, whatever its form is, a robot or a tank. If you want to watch the transform process, visit my youtube channel below” (ok, embedded so it’s easier for you) 😉

K, mission accomplished.  Time to play!

Famous People & Celebrities Made into Lego Minifigs

Been busy (and stressed) at work, so not been in the mood to blog lately.  But since my dear bf commented on my lack of posts…

… I pulled something up from my ‘reserve’ posts.  I keep some posts drafted with stuff that have been around for a while (before I started blogging) for emergency situations like now.  (Good contingency planning huh?) 😉

Do explore the flickr page link given for more interesting minifigs.

TGIF!

Ranging from historical persons like Joan of Arc, to Donald Trump, they have all been re-created into Lego minifigs by Jamie Spencer.  I just randomly selected 2 to showcase here, for many more do visit Jamie’s flickr page.

LEGO Systems Translates Award-Winning Build-and-Guess Fun of New Creationary Board Game Into First Official LEGO® iPad Application

-Hours of Mobile Fun for Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch Available Now for Free Download-

ENFIELD, Conn., Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — LEGO Systems, Inc., the North American division of the world’s leading construction toy brand, today announced general availability of the first official LEGO® branded application for iPad – a true-to-the-original board game version of Creationary, which tests how quickly players can guess what is being built from LEGO® bricks. The free game works on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch mobile devices.

Players “roll” the LEGO dice to find out which of the 4 randomly selected categories they are guessing: nature, vehicles, buildings or things. The game starts building an object from that category out of LEGO bricks, and players must guess which of the four possible answers is correct by tapping the illustration that they think matches what is being built. The faster players guess correctly, the more points they earn. As the game is played over time, the more difficult it becomes. If players guess incorrectly, the game ends. Scores can be shared with friends via email or on Facebook.

With 100 models available at launch in infinite play combinations, and plans for periodic and seasonal model refreshes, the mobile version of Creationary will delight passionate fans with an on-the-go way to play while also recruiting new fans – and families to LEGO board game play.

“LEGO bricks, whether in physical or digital form, provide hours of shared family fun, and mobile devices are a perfect way to take LEGO play on the go,” said Michael McNally, brand relations director, LEGO Systems. “More than 2.5 million people are using our LEGO Photo application, so we were inspired to celebrate the success of our new LEGO board games with another app that brings LEGO bricks to life in an entirely new way.”

The collection of 10 LEGO Games caters to a wide range of purchase and play occasions, ages, play types and price points. Each board game provides everything needed to start building and playing right out of the box, including customizable LEGO dice and separate building and game play instructions. LEGO Games are designed to be a new game every time they are played, encouraging children of all ages to build the game differently or change the rules and dice to keep game play fresh and exciting.

Download the free LEGO Creationary game in the App Store on iTunes. For more information on LEGO Games, visit http://games.LEGO.com or ‘Like’ us on Facebook.

(Happy) Gingerbread House

Been resisting posting MOCs that caught my eye, but  lyninsquam‘s 1st MOC is too happy not to share on a Monday night (erm, technically Tue morning by the time I post this).  Love the Gingerbread men, roof tiles and large candy (umbrellas).  Mmmm… reminds me of Katy Perry’s MTV (California Girls) btw.
