Some thoughts on the 2011 sets:

– I honestly feel quite disappointed that the rumoured girls theme is not available.  Having seen the trade catalogue, I can verify that it’s not in the pages that were not scanned.  Any chance of a Winter release? 😦

– But it looks to be another good year, especially for Star Wars fans (loads of new minifigs and reproduced OT sets) and Harry Potter fans (3 more sets, yippee!).

Creator is starting to look interesting too, the Lighthouse Island looks really good and it seems to be a trend that Creator sets now come with minifigs, blurring the line between Creator & City.

– Those who want to renact minifig abduction fantasies can now do so with the new Alien Conquest theme.  Again, is it meant to draw City fans into this theme?

– I wasn’t thrilled with the little Blacksmith set in Kingdoms, but there is another Blacksmith in the NinjaGo theme that looks better.  Interesting that so many of the NinjaGo theme sets are for limited time release – I’m guessing TLG thinks that limited releases helps to sell sets?

2011 Set Pics & Minifig Series 4 News

I know the 2011 set pics (Star Wars, Ninjago, Pharoah’s Quest, Atlantis, City, Technic, Creator, etc) are out on EB & ToysnBrick, mainly from this Dutch site: http://www.superspeelgoed.nl/preview.php and this German site: http://www.superspielwaren.de/

So rather than spending time re-posting, pls do go to the various sites that have already posted/re-posted the pics to get your fill of the 2011 sets k?  Anyway you would already have seen the sets if you saw the leaked catalogues posted a while back.

I’m more interested in the news of Minifig Series 4 shared by legokuate from EB who translated them from Dutch to English.  (EB Link)

  • Monster
  • Surfer Girl
  • Sailor
  • Kimono Girl
  • Punk
  • Viking
  • Speed Skater
  • Hockey Player
  • Skateboarder
  • Man with Safety Suit
  • Musketeer
  • Werewolf
  • Artist
  • Mad Professor
  • Soccer Player
  • Garden Gnome

Hard to assess without pics but based on description I would say Kimono Girl, Punk, Musketeer, Artist, Werewolf & Garden Gnome sounds good to me – either from the minifigs or the anticipated accessories.

So what do you think will be the ‘Spartan’ of this series?

Some MOCs I Like

Just met some A/TFOLs at a local store and was asked about my blogging frequency.  Apart from the usual “busy at work” and playing with the sets I got, I’ve also been busy playing hero in the land of Albion.  It doesn’t mean I stop posting stuff that are noteworthy, but some of the recent news like the new Architecture Series set – 21007 Rockefeller Center and all the partnership stuff with NASA I simply wasn’t interested enough to post after reading them.

Anyway… interesting piece of news that I read recentlyfrom BrickJournal issue #12 (thanks to Andrew!) is that who is one of my favourite builders has joined TLG as a product designer. Am looking forward to seeing his work in future sets.

************************************************

Larry Lars made this Court House modeled after an actual building in Karlstad, Sweden for an exhibition at a local museum.

RGB900 has created a Salon for fashionable minifigs to style their hair. Check out details like the TV on level 2. Very nicely done!  And great idea to put in the removable walls. 🙂

Pannier Tank 0-6-0 by bricktrix looks good… not a train person to really judge but to my untrained eye it looks good. 😛

I wonder if this LEGO Rocking Horse by  Bartosz Kurek really can be used? Perhaps a glued version?

And I leave you with this Transformable & Motorized Wall-E by  GYUTA. Apart from looking really cute, it can be packed up into a box and it moves too! Plus it also comes with it’s own little cooler box. Think this is the best LEGO Wall-E version I’ve seen so far. What do you think? Video after the pic (transformation starts at 1 min 54 sec into the video).

A Couple of MOCs

Some were blogged on other sites but heck I’ll still blog about them cos they look gorgeous.

Something for dessert perhaps? How about Chocolate Cake by Profound Whatever?

If you are in the mood for celebration then Mardi Gras by Brickbaron is a fantastic creation with nearly 600 minifigs. It also won “Best in Show” and “Best in Town” for Brickcon 2010.

Techic Dragonfly by arcanemettles looks deceptively simple, but it actually moves.

80’s Audio Tape by LegoManiac (LEGO13 manager) brings back some memories.  Remember those days when you get music compilations on tapes rather than an MP3 compilation?

To end this feature, pls enjoy this lovely castle creation by Derfel Cadarn.  His creations are always amazingly detailed with lush landscaping, textured walls, intricate details… I can go on but you should probably visit his Flickr page to see for yourself.

Unless my workload eases up, I suspect a lot less postings the next few weeks.  😦  Rather than checking for updates, an easier way is to subscribe to my blog (widget’s on the right). You’ll get an email notification when there’s a new post.

A Couple of MOCs for Guys…

A few macho macho MOCs to end the week…

MTAC-90i ‘Bison’ by The Brothers Merz looks gorgeous…

Motorcycles by aktuaroslo looks amazingly real…

Voltes V by tkh appears to be not just a nice looking robot… transforming robots are always cool.

Finally, a tank! To be honest tho, while the M1128 Stryker Mobile Gun System by ShôçkAñdAwé seems to be a nice tank – since I’m not a military weaponary person I’m not sure how accurate it is. But with the initials being MGS, I think it’s a sign that I should be blogging about it. 😛

Some very technical sounding info from its’ creator: “The M1128 is the MGS variant of the Stryker armored vehicle. The M1128 features a M68A1 105mm main cannon, an M2 .50 caliber MG, and a coaxial M240C MG. The principal function of the MGS is to provide rapid and lethal direct fire to support assaulting infantry”.

So there you go, the 1st tank MOC featured. Haha. 😀

New Lego Books & Lego Harry Potter Visual Dictionary

I had no idea so many new Lego related books are coming out until I did a search on both Amazon & Book Depository.

Most interesting find for me on the long list below is the Lego Harry Potter Visual Dictionary (Hardback – May 16, 2011).  Will it include a special minifig just like the Star Wars version??

For fans in Singapore (and I think to most other countries), bookdepository offers free shipping. Most of the links below go to Amazon except for the May Harry Potter releases that were listed on Book Depository but not Amazon, but if you want an easy view of the coming books, click here to see the listing on Book Depository.

2011 Technic & Hero Factory
